According to the Background at a Glance paper we get just before we get to a port, this area has the ruins of a palace that belonged to the Queen of Sheba, the tomb of the biblical prophet Job, and the resting place of Nabi Imran, the father of the Virgin Mary.
Some church historians believed this to be the area Lehi brought his family. This would have been where Nephi built their ship.
We are in Salalah, Oman port today and it was not on our original schedule. It is in place of one of the days in Egypt. There really isn’t a lot to see here unless you want to travel outside the area.
We took the shuttle bus from the ship to the other side of the port gate. Taxi cabs could not enter the port and passengers could not walk in the working port. As the bus pulled up at the gate, the cab drivers descended on us like vultures. Dennis was busy trying to get the best price and another couple wanted to ride with us. Dennis finally got everything worked out with the guy. The man then took us over to a cab driver and told him where we wanted to go. The cab driver did ok but he didn’t speak any English so it was hard to know what we were looking at on the ride.
We went to a souq (market place) and Dennis bought some frankincense and myrrh.
Annette and David were with us on our taxi cab ride.
They have a lot of sand crabs. Our driver took us to a little road side stand. They gave us a coconut to drink the milk. Dennis and still don’t like the taste. They broke the coconut apart so that we could eat the white part inside.
This was part of a fountain.
We settled up with the cab driver and caught the bus back to the ship.
