Dubai (Do buy) is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates on the Persian Gulf. They found oil here in the mid-1970’s which income represents only 6% of their gross domestic product. They diversified into tourism and real estate.
We do not have a ship tour for this port. We were going to go out on the free shuttle bus that was going to the Juman Centre shopping mall. We were waiting for the bus when Dennis decided that he should change some money. The next thing I know, he has bought tickets for the Big Bus.
There are two other cruise ships in this port besides ours. As we were driving out of the port, all you could see was blue water, clean tan sand, and gray rocks. I told Dennis they needed some color.
When we finally left the port area we were so surprised. Dubai is as opposite from our last port of Mumbai as night and day.
They had wonderful roads and everyone drove in their lane! There was no trash, no shanties, no slums, no cows patties being dried, no cows and no water buffalos.
We have never seen such a clean city in all our lives. They had planted colorful petunias ALL OVER TOWN. It made me tired just thinking of all the planting and up keep. They are the largest water consumers in the world. They are able to do that by changing sea water into water that can be used on their vegetation.
Everything in Dubai is boasted as the biggest, tallest, most beautiful, etc. in the world. It was fun to see a few things from home. (All these pictures are taken while moving on the top of the bus.)
Please look at the map with the drawing that looks like a palm tree. This is one of their newest subdivisions. The trunk of the tree is condos and five star hotels. The center is the Atlantis Hotel and the branches are individual homes with ocean water in between branches.
