Our plans for the day was to just take the free shuttle bus from the pier to the Muttrah Souq. A souq is a marketplace and they always close from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Once we got off the shuttle, Dennis wanted to move away from the cab drives and vendors. We walked up the sidewalk to take some pictures of the harbor.
This was Grandpa wishing he had a phone card to call.
There is a fort on top of the hill. These hills and mountains are made of ROCK. We were told that the air looks hazy because of all the sand in it. It is about 95 degrees.
A young cab driver came up to us and wanted to take us on a tour. After he and Dennis came to an agreement about the cost, we headed out. He said we needed to hurry. Our first stop was going to be The Sultan Qaboos bin Said Grand Mosque. It was a couple of miles away and non-Muslims were only allowed inside the mosque until 11:30. Then it would be closed for worship only. It was already 10:40.
We had no idea was were going to see but I have to tell you it was well worth it!
Our cab driver had a scarf to put on my hair so that I could go in too. He took our pictures.
I feel so bad that my pictures do not even come close to doing justice of this beautiful building. It took both Dennis and mine breath away. This mosque is as beautiful on the inside as the Taj Mahal is on the outside.
This is our cab driver. He really tried hard to make our time in Muscat great.
That is a picture right under the huge chandelier.
We were the last tourists out the door before they closed for the day. They have big blue runners on the floor to protect the carpet. It is suppose to be the largest one piece of carpet in the world.
