"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." -Mark Twain

January 21, 2013. Easter Island

We were told that only one ship out of ten that travel to Easter Island ever get passengers to the shore. The water may not look so bad until you are sitting in a tender. There are giant waves, sudden dips, and lots of rocks near the shore. I have never been on a tender ride like this one and we had to use it to get to the island and then back to the ship again. Thank goodness for seasick patches.

One of the tenders had a window smashed in on one of the trips. Because the water was so rough, the captain finally said that no other passengers could go a shore. That left many people very disappointed. Some of the passengers got really grouchy waiting in lines to go both to the island and then to the ship. If anyone tried to cut in line a head of everyone else it almost came to fist fights. Can't you just see a couple of 75 year old men punching it out!!

We were happy that we made it on the second tender to the island. Once we were on land, Dennis got us a taxi cab driver. Another couple, Jim and Barbara from Las Vegas, asked to share our tour. Our driver's name was Carman. We went on a four hour tour around the island. One of my favorite places is where there are fifteen Moai's in a row. We went to the quarry where some of the Moai's heads are sticking out of the ground. It cost $60.00 US dollars to hike up there. Dad let me do it and the others just waited for me.

There are all kinds of wild horses running around the island. It seemed to be greener on this trip than it was when we came in 2011.

It was a great day on the island and we were glad that we got to go.

January 20, 2013. Sea Day

I didn't sleep well last night because the water was so rough. After breakfast and Dennis had gone off to his class, I went down for a two hour nap. We met for lunch and then we went back down to our room. This time we both took a nap.

I finished reading the book Code Word by Traci Hunter Abramson. After dinner we had Sacrament meeting by ourselves. We haven't found any other members of the church on the ship yet.

It is staying light until 9:15 sunset. Satellite TV and Internet are out again.

January 19, 2013. Sea Day

Dad got up and went to his class on the Jewish people. Later that morning I went to a flower arranging class. Just before I was to meet up with dad for lunch, I went to the back of the ship and gave our friend Jeff some Diet Coke.

Tonight was a formal night and we didn't want to go. We went to the Lido for an early dinner and just stayed in our room for the evening.

January 18, 2013. Sea Day

I spent most of the day working on a hand project from home.

We had dinner with Pat and Wiley at 6:00 in the Lido Restaurant. We went to Showtime with them too. The program was the Amsterdam Singers and Dancers. We really enjoyed the whole evening.

January 7, 2013. Sea Day

Sometime during the night we passed the protection of a coastline and went into open ocean waters. Usually my ear patches and my bed take care of any motion that the ocean gives. Not this time!! I was so sick. As the day went the sicker I got. We are not sure if it was sea sickness or a bit of the flu. What ever it was, the day passed in kind of a blur.

January 6, 2013. Sea Day

Today was a sea day. It was time to wash hair, get the shower drain fixed, and to have the door to the patio worked on.

We had met a gentleman while standing in line yesterday. He said that he was one of the speakers for the cruise line. He would only be on the ship for two weeks. He wore faded Levi and T-shirt . We went to his workshop today. Here he was in a dress jacket and tie. His name is Dr. Jon Bailey.

January 5, 2013 Getting on the ship

We ate breakfast at the hotel and then waited for our turn for the bus to the port. Of course the last bus was scheduled for people with the letter R to Zobell. Getting checked in at the port was terrible. The lines were worst than Disney World! We stood in line for over 2 1/2 hours. One lady passed out while standing in line. I asked later if she made it on the ship and no one knew. It would be so awful to be so close to getting on and then not make it.

Our cabin is a whole lot smaller this time! Dennis checked to see what it would cost to upgrade. It was way more than what we wanted to pay so here we will stay. One by one our suitcases came. The last suitcase to come was the one I had at the hotel with my seasick patches.

We were able to unpack and put most things away. The diet coke and water made it just fine. It will take awhile to remember where we put everything.
