(Day #105) Flying Home

The day started just fine. We had breakfast at the hotel and caught a shuttle bus to the plane terminal. When we went to pick up our tickets to fly to New York City we were told that the flight was delayed. We were told we could take a earlier flight through Atlanta if we wanted. Great!! We were going to leave and get home sooner.

We took off and about an hour into the flight, a women had a heart attack in the front of our section of the plane. We have never experienced a medical problem on a flight before. The flight attendants asked if there were any doctors or nurses on the plane. It seems like we flew for a long time but really we hadn’t traveled very far. The plane had been releasing fuel before landing in the Acores at a military base. The Acores is a island that belongs to Portugal. After the military decided that we were what we said we were then they took the lady off the plane. The pilot had to write up a report and then we got refueled. All in all it made the flight about 15 hours.

Once we landed in Atlanta Dennis and I had decided that we might just get a hotel for the night but Delta had us booked on another flight in thirty minutes. Numb as we were, we got on the flight and headed home. After we reached Salt Lake we were glad that we were home. We had a great family welcome home!!!
