It has been a very unusual day at sea. We spent most of the day cruising around the Pitcairn Island.
Today, January 23, 2011, marks the 221 anniversary of the sinking of the Bounty.(Mutiny on the Bounty) The mutineers and their Tahitian companions settled on this two mile wide Pitcairn Island.
The island is inhabited by about 50 people, from nine families, making it the least populated jurisdiction in the world.
Today most of these islanders came to our ship by long boat. They came aboard to sell souvenirs like T-shirts, carvings, postcards, etc.
After about an hour of watching crazy shopping, we went down to the Queen's Lounge for a Pitcairn Island Presentation.
When it was time for them to leave the ship, they gathered together and sang song for the passengers. With extra supplies from our ship the islanders went home by long boat.
