Day 12 - Inverness, Scotland

After we walked a long ways to get to our bus, Diane informed us that our 5 hour tour was going to be longer. It ended up being 9 hours.

Our bus was much smaller than others we have had and we filled every possible spot. Our first stop was at a site for early graves. It was a lot like Stonehenge in England but much older.


Next we went to Culloden which was the site of the last major battle between the Jacobites (clansmen) and the military. The Jacobites only had hand weapons while the military had guns. The clansmen got stuck in a bog and could not get out. Over 700 clansmen were killed in about 45 minutes.


As we were leaving we spotted a couple of Highland cattle.

We drove back to Inverness for a little shopping and some lunch.


After lunch we traveled up the road to a boat dock. There we loaded on to a boat and sailed up the Loch Ness for about thirty minute ride. Our boat ride ended at the remains of the Umquhart Castle.
