We finished packing our bags and set them out in the hall the night before we were to leave. As we went to bed that night, there were mixed feelings of sadness and excitement. The sadness came from knowing that our time together and all that we had seen and learned was coming to an end. The excitement was from knowing that we would see and be with our families again.
We should have known what kind of day it was going to be the minute I opened the curtains. Gray clouds, gray water, and a gray military ship was all we could see. Gone was the wonderful sunshine, beautiful blue water, and greenery. I know that San Diego can be picturesque but not that morning!!!
We had to be out of our cabin by 9:00 a.m. so we got ready and said good bye to cabin 6171. We went up to the Lido deck to wait for our number to be called so that we could leave the ship. Our number was Gray 5. (We should have known.)
Sharon and Craig had been playing phone tag all morning. Craig was also in San Diego with plans to fly back to Las Vegas about the same time.
Once our tag color and number was called, we made our way off the ship. We were directed to the area where our suitcases could be located. Our brand new first-time-to-be-used suitcase was busted wide open. I had to fill out a report before we got a taxi for the airport.
We were half way to the airport when Sharon got a phone call from Craig wanting to know where we were. He was at our ship hunting for us. Because we going on different airlines, we would now miss meeting up with him.
Once we got to the airport Dennis found our packing tape that we had used on the ship and I taped our suitcase close. Sharon stood in line to save our place because there were a lot of people in line.
Once we had our tickets in hand and our suitcases checked in, we went in search for a wheelchair for Sharon to use to get through security. We found a wheelchair easy enough but we were told that there was no one available to push it. Much to Sharon's embarrassment Dennis decided it would be him to do it. She tried to talk him out of it but there was no one else to do it. I laughed at them and asked Dennis where was his sombrero? (Zobell family joke)
I took our carryons through security while Dennis helped Sharon. It was fun looking for people at the airport that had been on the cruise.
Our flight home was good but it was hard to have Michelle waiting to take Sharon away from us. After we said our good byes to them, we got our bags and went upstairs and there was Chelsea's family waiting there to greet us. They welcomed us home! Maybe this day was going to be good after all.
p.s. Even after four weeks home from our cruise, Sharon is still dealing with an infection in her left foot. Get well Sharon and we love you!!
