Dennis still didn't want to go to the site of the Port Arthur prison. Other than the
prison there wasn't anything or anyplace to go on shore without a car. It also required
taking a tender to get to shore. The tenders had to share the small pier with local ferries
that owned the pier. The pictures of the prison was taken from our patio on the ship.
The small island in the pictures is called the "Isle of the Dead". It's hard to believe but there
are over 1,100 people buried on it. Any officers and their famly members were buried on
the top of the island. The prisoners were buried at the bottom just above the water line
with no headstones.
I think Dennis legs are bothering him a little bit. He uses the days on the ship to get his legs
up so that the swelling goes down some.
"Black Tie" performed at Showtime. They will be getting off in Sydney where they live.
As we were pulling out of the port to leave, the captain told us that he was going to travel
close to the coastline so that we could see it. Tasmania, also known as the Jewel of the South
and Apple Isle, is probably the most thoroughly mountainous island in the world.
